FOUNDATION JOURNEY | Pengalaman Asasi sains UITM Dengkil | What I can do better from Asasi experience

Hi Assalamualaikum, if you don't know me, go read my muet tips click here! Salam kenal😁

Let's dive right into the topic💅

1. Be friends with whom you are comfortable.

I realized that I am a straightforward person and I don't like playing, meaning that I am quite serious all the time because I'm here to study and not to play. I am not a fast learner, so I have to study hard. But it does not mean I have no time to go out or have fun. I have. I'm an introvert, so if you do, choose friends who are in the same mood and energy as you. Having an introvert or ambivert friend will definitely make your day happier because you're comfortable with them and you are crazy only with them.

2. Prepare the list of questions specifically before meeting the lecturer.

My friend and I were going to ask the lecturer questions with no specific question to ask, so we ended up just asking 2/3 questions. I'm not going to say it is a waste of time, but you should learn from it. There were a lot of questions, but we didn't manage to ask because there was another student in the room, and we think the lecturer's explanation was perfect. You should come early so you are the first one, especially during the clinic?? I forgot the name, but every lecturer will welcome any student who wants to ask a question a week before the final exam. I've only been to the lecture room once in my Asasi life HAHA. So that's why I don't regret it. I will miss you, Dr. Hayati, my chemistry lecturer! Thank you for your teaching. Lecturers are mostly kind here in Dengkil, and you'll be good if you respect them.

3. Plan your time really well.

Yow, I have been so active in volunteering during my Asasi life. I often go out for Daurah (like camping but in a masjid around Selangor) and mentoring sessions. There is a mosque near our campus; I can't recall the name, but when it is night, the mosque lamp is green, which is fascinating! We often have mentoring there. It's tiring at first, but it's getting fun because I've learned how to be a better person. Moreover, I've been to Perak (specifically University Technology Petronas, UTP) with my friends on a trip. Also, I am a member of the Islamic Center Volunteerism at Pusat Islam (PI), and you guess? We are all busy; it is just a matter of whether we are able to allocate our time wisely or not. It is not hard. You just have to know your priority, but the scary part is my assignment! There were times when I finished my assignment just a few hours before the due date. Fuhh. Alhamdulillah, I managed to finish it on time and submit it. Anyway, it's bearable.

4. Learn to give your opinion in group discussions.

You know I'm not trained for this, so I'm no-good at this part. Most of the time, I will just agree with someone else's idea. But I shouldn't, right? I should add what's better, and no. But I'm not that bad; I've been giving ideas once in my group discussion for biology, and yeah, they agree, but only through WA. HAHA sokay Nabila. Do your best next time. The idea you give is not that bad, but we should enhance it by being more creative. You will learn more during your degree. So prepare yourself!

5. Be friendly with your housemates because you definitely live with them.

Ayoo Alhamdulillah, my housemate is so kind, and I rarely have problems with them. We pray Jamaah, sometimes eat together, share food, and that is just nice. I should belanja them more, huhu, sorry gais. I have fun going out with them, especially during the final exam (last paper, sem 2). We stay at KL, and it is exhilarating! I want to repeat! But yeah, sometimes a good package will come with the bad, so you'll have to tolerate. It's okay; Sabar is half of Iman. I appreciate that my roommate is the person who has the same goal in deen, so we remind each other about what is good and bad. It is fantastic! 5 semenanjung people (2 Kelantanese, 1 Melaka, 1 Selangor, 1 Pahang) and 1 Sabahan in a house is insane, but I adapt quickly. Like, they even tell me "Takde bunyi sabah pun". Aduhaii sy bersilat cakap sabah bukannya kau paham pun. HAHA Sorry if I underestimated you guys. I just feel comfortable if I speak Semenanjung. U understand I understand. Easy.

Gonna miss you all!

6. Know what study techniques best suit you.

For me, I definitely have different study techniques for different subjects. For biology, I can't really depend on lecturer notes.I have to study it with my friends. You should find someone who is good at that subject and tell them to teach you, or you guys should divide chapters and ajar selang-seli la. p/s Bio is my weakest subject, so I think that's why I need help. Someone should explain it to me in a simpler way. This study technique applies to no more than three people. I don't have problem with chemistry or math subject, so I'll say I'm better at studying them on my own. For physics, I can do both because physics has a lot of theory and equations, so teaching others will help you memorize and know the subject well. The thing about studying together is that you guys review the lecturer notes together, and you will not miss anything. Like me, I cepat boring baca text panjang-panjang, especially for Bio, so I think thats why. If you're good at math and chemistry, then don't forget to teach others, because it's good for your brain! and teaching skills! For CTU and ELC, I think it's really important to focus on class and do well in your coursework. This subject will affect your UITM CGPA but not your UPU. So it's important too!

7. Do not be afraid to be alone.

I often go to the library alone because that's the place I am most productive (even though I've slept there). And it is not a problem for me because having someone study with you sometimes makes me distracted. Also, I've been eating alone once at Anjung, and it is not that bad. Just enjoy being on your own. My friend tells me she often eats alone in the morning at Anjung because she's too lazy to wait for her friend😂, so it's faster to eat on your own. It is not a crime to be alone. You just have to fix your mindset that they are alone, not because they have no friends to hang out with; they just prefer being alone because it is productive. Go out of your comfort zone. Being alone is going out of your comfort zone, isn't it? Although it depends on the person, don't be Manja. Not everyone is going to stick with you till the end. So you have to have your own initiative on how to be successful without the help of others. But I can't deny that being successful together is better. But reality often hits differently. You are the one who is going to face the exam, not anyone else.

8. Have a good connection with students from other courses.

There is a Biology assignment where we have to invite another student from another course to be the judge of our presentation. So I have a few quality friends who have been in TESL; there are exactly 3 of them, and they all come to our presentation. Owhh, thank you! We never know if somebody will be useful in the future. Anyway, just be good to anybody that you meet. Surely good will be rewarded with kindness. I met them on my volunteer journey, so that's why we are keen on helping each other. Social life cannot be ignored.

9. Prepare a strong mental and emotional

I've been in a state where I am too stressed because of assignments, tutorials, studies, family problems, communication problems, exam pressure, and the list goes on. The part that hit me hard was the family problem. It is not about a money problem; something happened to my beloved sister (not death). So I feel sad. I even cried at the toilet with the shower on, so nobody heard me. I cry as much as I can until I feel everything is out. I messaged one of my seniors, asking her how to handle all of this. Below is my message to her. If you have the same problem, then this might help.

She told me to 'bertahan'. I felt relieved after that. I realize that I am here at Asasi just for one year. So what's the point of giving up? You do this because of Allah. And, alhamdulillah, I've been getting my spirit back to study, bolder and stronger than before. Oh ya. Also, my inner self thinks that I need help from a counselor, someone that I can trust and who may help me endure the pain I'm living with. Sampaikan, I snapped the picture of the counselor's number because I thought I'd call them later on my way back to college. But I found that I didn't have the courage to do so. So, I let Allah and the times heal me. Through Dua, I believe everything is going to be okay! Alhamdulillah, I finished the foundation! Just in a blink of an eye.

10. Take care of your health.

Taking care of your health is the same as taking care of your mental and emotional well-being. Don't skip breakfast, and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Also, going for a walk or even just doing something or skipping without rope in your room does give your body the chance to move. Your body isn't created just to lay or sit; it is designed to move effectively. I always have cramps during the night in my leg area; if you have ever experienced the cramp, God, it is so painful! I feel like I want to scream, and it disturbs my sleep. So I think that is the effect of not exercising, and maybe late sleep, stress, and so on. Don't live like this. Health is No. 1. Go play badminton with your friend; it's refreshing! Eat vegetables, meat, fish, chicken, and rice in the right quantity.

11. Do your obligation as a Muslim.

The sad reality today is that people often call people who just did basic things in religion super-religious person. Like?! What?! Praying doesn't mean you are super religious. It is an absolute must in Islam! Zikir, Quran, and Ibadah Sunat are all basic things that a Muslim does to prepare himself or herself for the hereafter. As a student, don't follow the norm or what your peers often do, like being a couple, being friendly with people of the opposite gender, or watching dramas that, in fact, have bad elements in them. It may seem undangerous, but little by little, your iman falls. How will you raise it again? Avoid them all. Not beneficial? Then leave. But, for myself, I met a person who often watched K-pop, dramas, movies, etc. but managed to score better on exams than I did. How? Girls! Allah, don't look at the results alone. Allah, look at your effort to get the result. Still remember the analogy between Pak Haji and Ah Chong? Click here to read them. Exactly like that. So keep improving yourself and believe that'maksiat dan ilmu takkan pernah bersatu'. Pegang sampai bila-bila!
